The existing light position is not automatically fan-ready
Ceiling fans create weight and movement that a standard light-fitting support may not have been designed to carry. The mounting point and surrounding structure need to be checked and reinforced where required. A fan should not be attached only to plasterboard or an unsuitable light bracket.
The final position also needs adequate blade clearance from walls, doors, tall furniture and changes in ceiling height. Sloping ceilings may require compatible mounting hardware or a downrod arrangement approved for the selected fan.
Choose the fan for the room and location

Replacement versus a new fan location
Replacing an existing fan may allow some wiring and controls to be reused, but compatibility is not guaranteed. A new location usually requires a cable route, suitable support and a control plan. Fan-and-light combinations can also change switching and conductor requirements.
An old fan that wobbles or makes noise may have loose parts, blade imbalance, worn components or mounting issues. Stop using it if movement appears unsafe and have it assessed rather than repeatedly tightening visible screws without checking the support.
